Diaspora is experiencing performance issues. We are investigating the cause.
UPDATE
Due to extreme Server load caused by backfill of the content from diaspora network, and major performance issue with matrix server, we decided to switch off diaspora for few hours. We will restart Diaspora in few hours (when things quiet down on the server) and let it run and sync with federated server over night.
