Matrix downtime for maintenance, this time for real!, scheduled 6 months ago

Finally we have managed to prepare for the great maintenance. All inactive users have been disabled and so we can now proceed to database cleaning. During that time (might be hours), we will:

  • Delete all empty rooms (not deleted by default)
  • Delete all redacted messages (not deleted by default)
  • Purge history of public rooms older then 3 months
  • Reclaim disk space

The operation will take place on Sunday night Amsterdam Local Time and will continue through the night.

Matrix inavtive users and database maintenance update, scheduled 6 months ago

Looks like third time's the charm.

Due to last minute issue we've noticed in the process of inactivating users, we have decided to postpone the action until tomorrow. Sorry for delay.

Matrix - Disable inactive account; database maintenance; moving riot to another url, scheduled 6 months ago

Finally, after previous scheduled matrix maintenance has been postponed due to non-disroot related workloads, we are back on track. Tomorrow night (Amsterdam time) we will start disabling inactive accounts on matrix. That operation will be followed by database maintenance where we are going to:

  • delete redacted messages (normally not removed from the matrix database)
  • Delete empty rooms (normally not removed from matrix database)
  • Reclaim disk space on the database This means for the time of the maintenance operation, the server will be offline which might take good few hours.

Additionally as we mentioned before, Riot (the webchat for matrix) will be moved that day to new url. From then on, you will be able to access it via https://riot.disroot.org

Nextcloud News Nextcloud News app updates temporary disabled

Due to ongoing maintenance of marking and removing old unread news items (over 11 MILLION) we have disabled News feed updates for the time being. Once the operation is finished we will re-enable it.

Note! From 11.5MILLION news items only about 700 000 are read! If you do not intend to read stuff, do not subscribe to News (some of you are subscribed to as many as 8000 News feeds!). Think of others and think of resources you waste. Do not litter!
